Using Positive Affirmations - Health and Healing

We all need to help ourselves through life. Just waiting for things to happen often puts us at a disadvantage. Using positive affirmations can help you improve your life, and push the direction of your life towards what you want.
Affirmations have been around for quite some time, and have been proven to help lead to a more calm, centered life. Over the years a number of different and popular programs have been provided that detail how to use positive affirmations, but they all share some common elements.
First, any time you approach life with a positive attitude, more positive things come to you. This has been called a number of different things, but the most common is that like attracts like. Just as when you speak and act negatively, you will notice that more bad things seem to happen to you, when you speak and act with a positive attitude, more good things come into your life. It isn't metaphysical mumbo jumbo, it is actually a part of human nature. When you act in a positive manner, you tend to see the positive things and react to them well. This helps, and like a snowball rolling downhill, tends to gather more and more good things as time goes on.
Second, those around you are affected by your positive attitude and actions and they respond as well.
So just what is a positive affirmation? Simply put, it is merely a statement made using words that convey a positive result. "I am getting better and better every day" was a very popular affirmation in the 60's and 70's and still fits today. To be most effective, however, affirmations should be something a bit more personal to you. That is to say they should come from you, not someone else.
Start by making a list of the things you are already happy about, then add some things you wish were true. Make them statements as if they have already happened. Periodically throughout the day, read and say them to yourself out loud. You may notice more immediate and better effect if you look at yourself in a mirror as you do this each morning. As you go about your daily routine, you will soon notice that the ones that were wishes are coming about. Adding to the list of things you are happy about (or want to be happy about) over time will guide your life into the areas you desire.
